Eco-farm is a useful and enlightening book on the science of the soil. It is USA based so many of the soils are very different from the Australian soils. However the science was useful and a book that will help many people starting on this journey of soil health;.

Intent of the book is good, but it is a maybe better as a text book for a high school or college-level science course. Some of the basic science early in the book could be picked up elsewhere. Instead of trying to cover everything in detail, the book would be more accessible if it was more succinct and more tightly focused on the ecological principles of perms/sustainable farming.

This is by far the Bible of Eco-Ag, and absolutely the first book anyone should buy when learning this subject. I refer to it over and over. I built a consulting business primarily off of it. Can't recommend it enough.
Truly a Primer
Purchased this book in the early 1980’s and in my transition to understanding Organic Farming it truly stood out as the most referenced book on my book shelf from the wear on it’s cover in those first decades. Later in working with other growers it was also the book most recommended. Some on animal health, some on soils, weeds as indicators and more. As a farmer I knew some about weeds but after reading the “Eco Farm”, aka “An Acres U.S.A. Primer”, my respect for weeds and what they tell us about the soil totally changed. And the quote from page 394 that “All relate to each other and everything is connected to everything else”, is the concept that as a primer is still important in our Food and Agricultural System of today.
